Two Beatles covers for spring

Spring is finally here, and completely amazingly we have some dry, sunny weather. I feel like a wee dormouse crawling out of its tree hole nest, comparatively awake but dazzled by the light and not sure what to do with itself.
Here are a couple of Beatles covers I love:

♬ Richie Havens - Here Comes The Sun

Maybe Here Comes The Sun is an overly-obvious choice for spring (though clichés are clichés for a reason..). But some years ago on BBC4 I saw an old live performance of this Richie Havens version and was blown away. The energy Havens and all the performers give to the track is something special, and brings the song's themes of reawakening to life.

♬ The Paragons with Rosalyn Sweat - Blackbird Singing

Tracks by The Paragons feel more like summer to me than spring - thoughts of sitting in my little messy garden with bees buzzing, flowers in bloom and ice clinking against the side of a glass. But as I was posting Here Comes The Sun, I thought I'd include this one too. If you haven't heard their work before, give it a look - it's the kind of music that just makes your day better. And definitely seek out their 1967 original version of The Tide is High!

Camera Obscura: If Looks Could Kill

If Looks Could Kill was released in January 2007, the third single from Camera Obscura's album Let's Get Out Of This Country (Elefant Records, 2006).

I love Scottish indiepop, and the urgency and upbeat pace of this song combined with Tracyanne Campbell's melancholic tone make this a superb track... but then, the CO discography is swimming with brilliant tracks!
There are so many that I'd find it really hard to choose a favourite. (maybe in another entry I'll make a list. ♡)

I'd really recommend looking up their discography if you enjoyed this song - Bandcamp is great for their earlier stuff, and all their work since is easily findable on streaming services. ♪
